The Amazon Kindle device and apps aren’t just for reading books. You can highlight and take notes and they are saved in Amazon’s cloud. But where are Kindle Highlights Stored?
On the Kindle, the highlights for a specific book are displayed alongside notes and bookmarks on the View Notes and Marks screen.
Does Kindle Save Your Highlights?

If you have a WiFi connection, then Kindle Highlights are stored in the Amazon account, also the previous highlights made on other books will be stored.
This feature is only available provided you have an internet connection. Most of the highlights that have disappeared can be retrieved by enabling WiFi.
How To View Kindle Highlights:
To see the highlights or notes you’ve taken while on your Kindle
- Go to the device you’re using to access the website.
- Go to read.amazon.com/notebook
- Log in to your Amazon account.
- After you’ve logged into your Amazon account, you’ll now have access to all your Kindle highlights and notes
- On E-reader: Tap on the screen, select “Go-to”, and then select the “Notes” tab.
- For iOS users just Tap the screen and select the “Notebook” icon from the menu.
- Android users tap on the screen select the More menu, and select “Notebook”.
Highlighting Text On Kindle

You can add a highlight while reading. Drag a finger over the text that you want to highlight. As you lift your finger you’ll see a notification informing a highlight has been made.
If you’d like to undo the highlight tap on ‘undo’ in the toolbar. If you no longer need certain text highlighted, you can tap on it and choose to delete it.
Kindle Highlights Disappeared
If your Kindle Highlights disappear then remember not to remove the ebook.
- Enable WiFi as it will then sync all your notes stored locally to the cloud.
- Make a copy of your Kindle highlights and backup on PC or in the cloud.
- Check whether highlights have synced to the Amazon account.
- You can check it at the Kindle Cloud Reader (KCR).
- Post login in KCR select Highlights and Notes, and check if your recent notes are there.
- Check the notes on your Kindle device and ensure that the missing notes are there.

- To back up your Kindle highlights
- Connect the Kindle to the device via a USB cable.
- Open Folders and select the Kindle directory.
- Go to Documents.
- Select and copy MyClippings.txt
- Paste the file to a directory on your cloud provider to save it.
