DIRECTV, incorporated in 2009, is a provider of digital television entertainment with a wide variety of sports and movies. But recently the digital entertainment service has been in the news for its feud with broadcasting giant Tegna Inc this has led to customers facing the DirectTV ABC Channel not working issue.
Reason DirectTV ABC Channel Not Working Issue:
The dispute between DirecTV and broadcasting giant Tegna Inc. is over the renewal of the transmission consent agreement. The companies have failed to reach an agreement before the 5 p.m. PT deadline on Thursday.
This has led to a blackout of 68 local affiliates: ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC affiliates from DirecTV, DirecTV are some of them. The outage affects roughly 5 million customers in markets across the U.S.
Therefore users are facing the DirectTV ABC Channel not working issue.
This move comes after months of negotiations and TEGNA rejecting an offer from DIRECTV to extend through the college and NFL football seasons so as not to disrupt viewers while the two sides finalize a renewal.
In a statement to TheWrap.com, a Tegna spokesperson said the company is working hard to reach a fair, market-based agreement with DirecTV. But DIRECTV has refused to agree to such terms so far.
Responding to Tegna DirectTV said that Just as they have done with several other video distributors, TEGNA has once again forced its programming out of DIRECTV and U-verse homes and businesses. TEGNA is doing this to extract double-digit annual rate increases from customers.
DirectTV added that they will continue to help customers stay connected to the same live sports and primetime entertainment.
Fans are worried that this feud could impact several big football games this weekend. They are the Georgia-Alabama SEC championship on CBS, CBS’ NFL package (headlined by the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans), and the Kansas City Chiefs-Green Bay Packers Sunday Night Football game on NBC. This marks the second time this year that DIRECTV and a major local station owner couldn’t reach a deal this year, The last carriage rights dispute involved DirecTV and Nexstar Media Group’s local affiliates.
They too had blacked out the channels in 113 markets for 75 days beginning in July. Charter and Disney also had a dispute over distribution fees that led to a two-week blackout over the summer.
The reason behind the dispute is that Tegna is seeking annual double-digit rate increases, This hike will affect the customers as they will have to pay a premium for Tegna stations.
The rates demanded by Tegna are much higher than any DirecTV is paying to other providers.
DirecTV has suggested that customers could have the opportunity to subscribe to Tegna to help meet the rates requested, This move would give customers the ability to buy into stations they genuinely enjoy.
It’s unclear how long the blackout will last, but DIRECTV continues negotiations to return TEGNA programming to DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM and U-verse.
